The Cashbox: Is Orton Still A Top Draw? And Should He Be?

2.  Randy Orton is boring and overrated — always has been.

This one seems like a new argument that came out of nowhere. Due to that, I think this is exactly what John Cena has been going through for a while — a certain group of the IWC got tired of him and started talking nonsense. Others simply followed suit.

Orton was born to wrestle. It took him a while, but he also found a way to connect with the fans. At least, the majority. Mass appeal and Vince's support are the only two things you need to get to the top, and stay there.

Orton has both.

I'm not against a character change for Orton. I can see how some fans might perceive Orton's Viper gimmick as a bit lackluster, especially in heavy doses.

I can also see why some claim he's monotone on the mic, but I'd call it intense. I personally like it.

I don't see many denying his ability in the ring.

I think it's a simple case of Orton needing a challenge. When your best players are riding the bench, it's only a matter of time before they want their place back in the spotlight. If nothing else, to prove they can still do it.

Prior to his suspension, it looked like a Sheamus/Orton feud was imminent. The chemistry between the two of them was better than anything Sheamus has had since gaining the title.

That program might still be the best option for Orton.

Whatever it is, I hope it's something worthwhile. The sixty days might not have done much for Orton's haircut, but he seemed to look genuinely excited to be back.

Take advantage of it, Vince, because I believe a motivated Randy Orton is easily one of the top five all-around talents you have.

Maybe even top three.
