The Cashbox (Pt. 2): Face To Face w/ Sycho Sid

During lunch the following afternoon, Sid began calling for me to join him during his conversations with various wrestlers. He would suggest that I interview them for my show and website.

Sid started being cordial. Sid was being…nice.

It happened several times and I had no clue why. So, I decided to ask him. I followed him out of the cafeteria and into the main lobby area.

"Hey man, I'm not sure why you're doing all this, but I just wanted to say that I appreciate it."

"I'm NOT doing it for you," Sid snapped back at me, "I'm doing it because Larry [the promoter] said you've been here for two days and he hasn't seen you talk with one person."

It was an unfair accusation, as I had talked with and interviewed several wrestlers by this point, but I didn't argue. I picked a different battle to fight moments later.

"Either way, I appreciate it," I responded, "and just want you to know that I'm sorry about the other day man. I really didn't mean to upset you."

Sid's demeanor changed AGAIN, as if he started immediately struggling to hold back his anger toward me, AGAIN. He nearly whispered the following.

"Did I or did I not ask you to never bring that up again?"

"NO!" I shouted as I too began getting emotional quickly, "And even if you did, Sid, I asked you OFF THE AIR!"

"STOP USING ADJECTIVES!"

I was thinking last night that maybe, in some sort of futuristic way, Sid knew that phrase would eventually become my hashtag response to people that annoy me on Twitter.

It wasn't long before Sid and I were basically yelling at one another in the middle of the hotel. We even had a few spectators by the end of it. Needless to say, in the end, I didn't win back my friend.

Sid told me he was leaving in the morning and wanted one final night of peace away from me. He added that he never wanted to speak to or see me again and reiterated that I was dead to him.

And that was that.

Sid returned to his room and left the following morning. I stayed and ended up landing this exclusive story of HBK assisting in Marty Jannetty's baptism, with quotes by both of them, and Sting.

And remember: Steve Borden was the one who originally wanted Sid to come to this event. It was quite clear that Sting had been told the goings-on between me and Sid by the time I interviewed him. He was short, and rather unpleasant toward me, but was also professional and did his part to put over the organization.

Sid took every opportunity after that to blast me publicly during interviews, but it didn't last too long and eventually, the story went cold.

I did a little extra research in preparation for this article and found this interview Nick Paglino and I had with Sid from October of 2005. I guess it only took a little over a year for Sid to forgive me.

That, or again, he had no idea "Chris Cash" was the same person as the 18 year old "punk kid" he met (and wanted to kill) in Phoenix.

He still might not know.

IF and when I decide to reach out to Sid again, and IF he's read or heard about this two-part walk down memory lane by then, I hope he remains still willing to talk to me. I hope he's had a realistic chance by now to let go of that anger.

I revered "Sycho Sid" and "Sid Vicious" as a kid. I still respect Sid Eudy.

And even with the reality of the aforementioned story, I wouldn't change a thing. Everything happens for a reason and even though I might not know what those reasons are for this particular experience, I did at least learn one important lesson:

When arguing with Sid Eudy, I will NOT use prepositional phrases (posing as adjectives) as my main defense!
