I don’t post in the comments section of my columns because I won’t associate with the marks. But I feel the need to respond to a couple things:
*One idiot said that Sabu “changed wrestling in the ‘90s.”
Really? How? When the history of wrestling is written, Terry Brunk won’t even be a footnote.
Sabu wasn’t the best sheik, he wasn’t the best stuntman, he wasn’t a draw, he barely cracked the big time and he was a crap worker. How on earth did Sabu change wrestling in the ‘90s?
ECW was a phenomenon. But individuals didn’t create the phenomenon. Branding and style created the phenomenon. Most of the wrestlers were crap, and went on to prove it. Paul Heyman looked even smarter in ECW’s aftermath. The Gangstas were stars…for Paul. The Public Enemy were stars…for Paul. Sandman was a star…for Paul. Sabu was a star…for Paul.
When Sandman came to WCW as “Hardcore Hak,” a member of creative said to me, pleadingly, “What the f*** are we supposed to do with HIM?”
Good question. No answers. The guy was a ring entrance. Take away the beer and smokes, and he wasn't even that.
*Another moron said, “This idiot thinks Vince McMahon will let a UFC fighter make fun of his most famous/loyal wrestler in The Undertaker.”
Do you really think loyalty should have anything to do with it? Fake wrestling isn’t about preserving the dignity of icons. It’s about CASH. If Lesnar ridiculed ‘Taker, then CRUSHED him en route to a ‘Mania match against Steve Austin, that would be GREAT FOR BUSINESS.
‘Taker is just about done. Fake wrestling doesn’t provide a sunset to ride off into. Wring the sponge DRY.
Marks get way too excited about The Undertaker’s win streak at ‘Mania (and I’m not even talking about ending that). It’s ALLFAKE. All those results were PREDETERMINED. You do know that, right?
‘Taker is an icon. An all-time great. But do you think he drew that ‘Mania buy rate? HELL, NO. Would his legend or dignity be diminished if he got demolished by Lesnar? HELL, NO. Look at all the jobs Ric Flair did for inferior performers. HE’S STILL RIC FLAIR.
But McMahon probably feels the same way that moron does. Loves ‘Taker, hates Lesnar. Career WWE guy vs. UFC interloper. Vince is the audience of one. He’s got more money than he could ever spend. That’s why WWE always underachieves creatively. ZERO PRESSURE to succeed.
*Memo to Hogan and Bischoff: AVOID SCOTT STEINER. Not sure if he’s serious. But nothing good can possibly be accomplished by finding out.
