MORE ON LESNAR
Read Bruce Mitchell’s latest column at PWTorch.com. It’s the definitive roundup of how WWE has F’d up with Brock Lesnar.
Bruce’s most salient point concerns the Raw that followed “Extreme Rules.” Too much time was spent showing Cena’s pin and not enough time emphasizing the savage beating he took.
It’s been a long time since wrestling had a guy that made fans think, “This is fake…but I’m not quite sure about this guy.” Lesnar had the potential to be that guy, and maybe still does. But WWE inexplicably seems to be taking Lesnar in the opposite direction.
How’s this for a timeline: Lesnar DESTROYS Triple H at SummerSlam. Lesnar challenges Taker at Survivor Series and DESTROYS him after laughing at his gimmick and all the phony Bela Lugosi stuff. Austin comes back to face Lesnar at Mania, Wyatt Earp riding in to save the town from the outlaw.
That keeps Taker’s Mania streak alive. It makes Taker work an extra match, true, but at what point is the company’s success bigger than the professional whims of The Undertaker? Taker and Lesnar could have their rematch at WrestleMania 2014.
Two holes in that arc: Could Taker, considering his age and condition, and Austin, considering his neck, work the proper style and take the punishment necessary to have a good match with Lesnar? Safety first.
