#1. THE MAIN EVENT
Typically, I would include a section where I list your tweets about what's bothering you this week. However, the overwhelming majority of you are apparently bothered by one thing this week. And I noticed a lot of journalists and wrestling opinionists feel the same way.
Nick Paglino and I debated this last night on "VOW Reaction" (archive will be posted later today).
According to many, Brock Lesnar returning to the WWE only to lose to Cena in his first match back is an abomination of some kind. It "ruins" everything and there's no way Brock can recover. It's the "same old Cena" and blah, blah, blah.
I get it. And agree that WWE made a bad decision. I don't understand the logic behind Cena winning last night, whether the injury is legit or not. Judging by Cena's post-match promo, it seemed the plan all along was for him to take time off after the match. If that was the case, wouldn't "Wrestling Booking 101" tell you that he should lose the last match before his departure? It would have set up Brock as a monster heel taking over Raw during Cena's absense, only to have Cena return and save the day.
I understand that last night's outcome didn't make sense.
That being said, some fans are overreacting. Extreme Rules wasn't ruined by the outcome of the main event. Brock Lesnar wasn't either. WWE could allow Brock to spin this any number of ways. And Nick made a point last night that most are probably not thinking about: who's to say that Brock isn't taking time off, too?
We have all read the reports about the one-year contract, but we also know that Brock isn't supposed to be working a full-time schedule either. Maybe Vince doesn't want him working events like Over The Limit and No Way Out. I'm not saying this is the case, but it could be. And it would open the door to Cena going over last night making more sense.
Okay, maybe it wouldn't. I can't make sense of Brock losing at Extreme Rules any more than you can. I'm just not taking it as far as some fans though because I fully expect Brock to recover completely from the loss. The guy is still an animal. He's still a beast. He's still relevant. And he's still valuable.
WWE "needs" to follow up strong tonight on Raw. If they do, all will be forgiven very quickly.
