EDGE – ONE STEP UP
Very interesting surprise having Edge return last week on Raw. Interesting in the sense that what he said could be foreshadowing WWE's future plans for Cena a bit. By putting his match tonight with Brock Lesnar on such a pedestal, it almost assures me that Cena will lose.
This story hasn't played out enough yet for it to end tonight. John Cena hasn't lost enough.
The announcers have been putting over Cena's recent losses and WWE seems to be labeling tonight's match as a "must win". It's a much more intriguing story if he loses then. How will Cena react after "another" devastating defeat? Who will be the next Edge to come out and vocalize their frustration with Cena and disappointment in him?
I guess, in theory, Edge could be coming back in a non-wrestling role. Monday didn't seem to suggest that necessarily, but it's possible. If Cena loses tonight, we could see Edge return tomorrow night to continue this story.
Either way they go with Cena, it was good to see Edge again. I still think he has plenty to offer the wrestling business, if HE wants to. And if he does, I just hope WWE finds a fresh way to insert him back into the programming and not an authoritative role of some kind. Johnny Ace should be that guy; Edge should do something else.
