BILLY GUNN – ONE STEP UP
This is a shameless plug for my colleague, Mike Killam, and Billy Gunn, who has always been a great friend of my VOW radio shows. I encourage anyone and everyone in the Chicago area to attend the Extreme Rules after-party tonight at Stadium Sports Club & Pizza.
I've had the pleasure of hosting and attending several of these "wrestler parties" and to be honest, they are the new breed of conventions, meet-and-greets, etc. You get to receive pictures and autographs like normal, but it's a much more casual atmosphere. You aren't rushed like cattle through lines and while you're waiting for your chance to hang out with the special guests, there are typically hundreds of like-minded fans there to talk to and pass the time.
I hear Billy Gunn was as popular as anyone at the WrestleMania party this year. He's a lot of fun, very laid back, and willing to answer just about anything you throw at him. I recommend you check out the party if you're able to go tonight.
On another note, I hope Billy gets the opportunity soon to head back to the WWE. I always assumed that BG's return there would eventually open up the door for Kip as well. And it should. I still believe the two of them could help the tag team division tremendously on camera. But Kip has a lot to offer behind the scenes as well in an agent type of role.
Much like his former tag team partner, Billy Gunn has also cleaned up his life and is walking the straight and narrow. I think WWE has already noticed that and it's just a matter of time before he's offered some sort of role there.
Let's see if I'm right.
