Superstar Spotlight: WWE Superstar Kane

Superstar Spotlight: Kane

Kane is back to wearing his mask and had a great return, but he is back to being the Big Red Jobber. Yes, I know what you are thinking, people throw the term jobber around alot, but I am only using it loosely. Kane seems to always have the same story where he makes a return and beats up a bunch of guys, then he gets in a feud with a guy and loses. He fought John Cena to a draw and a loss at two consecutive pay-per-views, and it’s not definite but it looks like he may lose again at Wrestlemania. I’m not going to try and make this a fantasy booker type deal, but losing three big matches in a row doesn’t do him any good in the long term. On top of that, he also gets cheap wins on TV and exacts revenge by attacking post-match and chokeslamming everyone.

Kane has always been stuck in this role, and I don’t know why it still puzzles me. I know he is elevating other talent and is at the end of his career, but what about when he was in his prime? He got a one day WWE title reign and a few tag titles, but he usually went up and down the card without reason. Don’t get me wrong, he has a decorated career that also includes a Money In The Bank win and an impressive Royal Rumble statistic, but I thought he deserved more. It just seems like when someone needs to get over they use Kane, but after seeing it so long it doesn’t really feel like it’s a big win. Randy Orton and John Cena don’t need to beat Kane to prove themselves, and while both feuds seem a bit fresher than others they do feel thrown together. Kane got a well deserved title reign in 2010, and while it could have been longer it did it’s job and it made him look good. It might have been a thank you type of deal, but he beat the Undertaker three pay-per-views in a row; I can’t think of many people who have done that.

I’m sure Kane is just doing his job and is at the end of his career, but I want to see him do more and maybe get another send off as the monster everyone knows he can be. There have been a bunch of times where he had potential only to have something change and drop; the Zack Ryder angle is a great example. Zack and Kane should be facing off at Wrestlemania, not Orton, because it has a storyline made months in advance. People love Zack Ryder and Kane put him on the shelf, so wouldn’t the logical thing be to get revenge, or at least go down with a fight? That would be great but I won’t hold my breath as I feel like he may just do midcard matches until something bigger comes up, or he may retire. I may have sounded a bit harsh, but don’t get me wrong I do like having Kane on television. He does his job, he is reliable, and he is great at being crazy and scary; Kane is the ultimate professional and has been just as important to WWE as anyone else.
