WrestleZone’s Top Five: Elimination Chamber Matches

Number 3: New Year’s Revolution 2006

John Cena

You look at who was involved in this match, and you begin to shake your head. Why would they put John Cena against guys like Carlito and Chris Masters? Aside from those two, Kurt Angle, Kane, and Shawn Michaels would be entrants in the match, all aiming to dethrone the Super-Cena that was ressurecting right in front of our eyes. Albany, New York was the place where one of my favorite Chamber matches took place. Another match that lasted just under a half hour, Shawn Michaels would shockingly eliminate Kurt Angle first with Sweet Chin Music. What was more shocking is that the other veterans would be next, Michaels and then Kane. It would leave two unproven and young stars in Carlito and Masters. I loved how this chamber match was booked. We all expected Michaels or Angle to fall short of Cena, but it was Carlito and Masters who stole the show. We had Michaels and Cena start, but it was the tease of a young and new champion that grabbed all of the attention. When Carlito executed a rolling cuter on Michaels to eliminate him, I was unsure what they had planned. Cena would retain after a brutal match, but it was Edge cashing in the first ever Money in the Bank that everyone will remember. That was one of my top favorite moments of the 21st Century, but the Chamber match gave us much more than we could remember.
