Kevin Eck of the BaltimoreSun recently got added to WWE’s creative team. He’s fairly knowledgeable. Seems to know what he’s talking about. AWFUL CAREER MOVE.
Eck could help, but his appointment reminds me of an exchange I had with the late Herb Brooks, architect of the 1980 Miracle on Ice, after I’d impressed Herb with a bit of hockey acumen: “Mark, you could coach in the NHL. But who the **** would listen to you?” Cue mad cackle.
Herb was a wrestling fan, by the way. Let me quote briefly from the obituary I wrote for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “Herb liked watching pro wrestling – true to his roots, his favorites were Minnesotaproducts Ric Flair and the late 'Mr. Perfect,' Curt Hennig – and he really got a kick out of my stint as a pro wrestling color commentator. And I really got a kick out of that. The miracle worker usually cheered for the bad guys, by the way. Go figure.”
I really miss Herb. One of a kind.
