Welcome back to THT, as ever we begin with whats been happening and Robbie T’s reaction…
People need to shut up about the Edge/Lita/Matt Hardy situation. Bottom line? You don’t know what has gone down between those 3 people. Many of those sharing their “thoughts” have never been in a relationship, let alone one lasting several years. Matt is hurting and I sympathise, but commenting on this at all in public is not the way to go. Dignified silence is the way to go, and I know.. a while back, I was in the “Edge” role in a similar situation, I stole someone’s girl and the guy who was harshly dumped after 6 years simply said to me…”She will come back to me eventually…” I said “never..” Guess what? I wish I hadn’t said anything cos he was right… As for Matt supposedly returning to Smackdown, harsh as it maybe, it probably is for the best… I can see him being Cena’s Summerslam opponent for the WWE title this year… The fans will be cheering like crazy for him when he does return…
Akebono somehow is not anywhere near as impressive as Yokozuna was, sure they are from different “sports” but Yoko was a true behemoth, Akebono is “slightly portly” in comparison… But he will hand ‘Show his ass…remember the last “Sumo Match”? Come back Earthquake…all is forgiven..
So what became of Daniel Puder? I mean, he is getting his million dollars I assume? Should he not be refereeing or doing something to earn it, or even…dare I say it? wrestling?
Jericho is in his element in the run up to Wrestlemania, the match is seemingly focused on him… which of course means he has no chance of winning… My money is on Kane here cos Batista is gonna need some “big meat” to establish him with the gold…
Flair and Snitsky…the Odd Couple? or the beginnings of a Flair managerial stable ala the Horsemen? It’s clear Evolution has run it’s course once WM is out of the way… Flair will need something to do thats for sure…
For those of you eagarly awaiting the Greatest…WWE Tag Team champs, keep your eyes peeled later this week… Right now I want to talk about something crazy that happened just a few short hours ago…
This weekend I finally got Sky+ (or Tivo) as you would call it stateside, this was the first time since leaving America I had seen RAW “as live”, no spoilers read…just watching the show blind… and just a few short minutes in I was back to a state I thought I had left behind forever… JAKE “THE SNAKE”? WHAT THE F***? For the first time in many years I was stunned with a WWE development… Sure Jake is a little portly these days and the ravages of his oft lamented problems clear…but that simple idea.. JAKE THE SNAKE…IN A WWE RING again….
And more importantly, it was like Jake had never been away… Sure Randy got the better of Jake, but if we don’t see a match between them next week I will be real disappointed…
So that excitement over, I laughed a little at Regal getting “besmirched” by Christy and then I really did double take…
Regular readers of my column will know for a long time I have pushed and pushed to see Shawn Michaels and WWE “honour” Marty Jannetty in some way, without that man, WWE’s landscape would be so different… Marty arguably got the “short end” when The Rockers split, for his time he was as good as Shawn… but got none of the respect… Last night that changed…The Rockers Reunion match, sure it served a purpose, sure we all know Marty will probably lose to Angle this week, but for 10 or so minutes, Marty Janetty was the centre of attention in WWE, not only looking and wrestling as well as anyone on the roster, but like he had never been away in the first place… Shawn deserves a hell of a lot of credit for letting Jannetty take the limelight it would have been easy to play the “reluctant partners” angle… but Shawn seemed to enjoy being a Rocker again as much as Marty and the fans… I could even see Shawn helping Marty steal a win over Kurt this week…
These two moments, more than anything I have seen on WWE TV in years, more than anything Wrestlemania and it’s “returning legends” have to offer thus far, made me glad I still watch WWE… I marked out and it was a damn good feeling to do that once again…
The reality part of this is, they will be short term deals, though it could be said Marty Jannetty could still play a role in the ring or in WWE’s developmental system… I hope they give him a shot on Smackdown personally, maybe even team him with a younger star or perhaps (if he is light enough) the Cruiser or US title divison… Guys like Marty could help bridge the gap of credibility guys like Jindrak, Orlando and Paul London have as serious superstars…
I hope WWE has many more surprises like this lined up over the next few weeks…. With guys like Ted DiBiase and Rick Steamboat now working for the company, we may well do… Now if only they can get Hogan to let Savage come too!!
As ever keep your feedback coming to [email protected] and keep an eye out for the Greatest WWE Tag Team Champs…
