Hello people and welcome to a very special edition of Off The Record. This is going to be a very short column simply just with my own special tribute to one of the greatest workers the wrestling world has ever seen. Apologies this has not been out sooner but I have been rather busy recently and I have also struggled to put my thoughts into words about this particular subject.
It is almost a month to the day since one of the WWE’s biggest stars today Eddie Guerrero passed away. This has really shocked the whole wrestling world and quite frankly I think some guys such as Benoit, Mysterio and Chavo will never be the same after the passing of this great man. As with the recent death of former soccer player George Best, Guerrero was a top man in his field and the term legend can certainly be used. I vividly remember where I was the day Eddie passed away. It was November the 13th and along with about 7 other friends I was on my way to a local independent show in a place called Kilmarnock in Scotland. We were to meet a whole bunch of other show regulars for transport down to the show on a privately hired bus. When we got on the bus I was told of Eddie’s death. At first I didn’t believe it and neither did most other people on the bus, but a quick check of the Internet on my mobile confirmed the sad news. The tribute shows I have to say were fantastic. The WWE a company that has often been criticised for not mourning the passing of former talent really showed how much it cared. Eddie was right up there with the best wrestlers of his generation. Along with guys like Benoit and Kurt Angle he was arguably one of the finest guys to be wrestling today. People say that guys such as John Cena, Batista, Randy Orton, The Rock, Steve Austin and HHH are the best wrestlers because of how many titles they have won. However guys like Benoit and Angle are the true stars and Guerrero was right up there with them.
In closing all I can simply say is that you will be truly missed in the wrestling world. You are one of the greats and the entertainment you gave us will never be forgotten.
