Be the booker man…
Starting around the time of the Survivor Series, each member of the WWE creative team is asked to submit their "dream Wrestlemania" for the upcoming year. No limits…simply if you could book your ideal card, what would it be? So today, I’m going to do just that. Now, I’m going to be a little bit hamstrung here, as I need to at least stay somewhat within the parameters of the current storylines. In turn, I’m stuck with a few matches that I don’t really care to see, but that we all know will undoubtedly will be booked whether we want ’em or not. Keep in mind, I am well aware that several of these matches would require large leaps in storyline, which is exactly the point. So here’s my stab at the best card that the WWE could put forward this Wrestlemania.
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP vs.
WRESTLEMANIA STREAK
John Cena vs. The Undertaker
WWE CHAMPIONSHIP
Triple H (w/Stephanie & Shane McMahon) vs. Randy Orton (w/Priceless)
MONEY IN THE BANK LADDER MATCH
Evan Bourne vs. The Brian Kendrick vs. William Regal vs. Kofi Kingston vs. MVP vs. R Truth vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay
TRIPLE THREAT CAGE MATCH
Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy vs. Edge
JBL vs. "The Heatbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels
INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION vs. UNITED STATES CHAMPION
CM Punk vs. Shelton Benjamin
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
The Miz & John Morrison vs. Priceless
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Beth Phoenix (w/Santino Marella) vs. Trish Stratus
ECW CHAMPIONSHIP – Extreme Rules Match
Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer
BATTLE OF THE MONSTERS
The Big Show vs. Vladimir Kozlov vs. The Great Khali vs. Umaga vs. Mark Henry vs. Kane
Chris Jericho vs. Mr. Kennedy
PRE-SHOW
Divas Battle Royal
Now…you’ll notice a few things. We need to find a way to get The Undertaker in there against Cena. We need something new though. Nobody wants to see him fight Orton, Edge, etc. every again. Been there, done that. Batista won’t be ready, so he’s out of the equation. So this is the best we can do here. How is that going to happen though (being that ‘Taker didn’t win the Rumble)? Good question. Haha. Also, you will note that Triple H also must win the elimination chamber in my scenario…easy enough. Now a big emphasis of this card for me was new and exciting pairings. So that’s how I came to the first 6 participants in the Money in the Bank. Sadly, at the end of the day, I didn’t have any other place for Rey Rey and Finlay, so they got tacked on. Naturally, the Hardy vs Hardy payoff deserves to be one on one and a gimmick match. But where do we put Edge if he’s not in a title match? Hence, he gets placed here. Christian could still be involved in some capacity there as well. I have no respect for Melina, so in my world…she dropped the title and we gave the fans a legit opponent. I have abandoned the asinine Jericho vs. the legends storyline (not original, should be aborted now that Rourke is not involved, no real viable legend opponents)…now, I know full well that we are going to end up with like Jericho vs. Steamboat or one of the HoF inductees, but I refused to participate in this in my version. Notable omissions include Mike Knox, The Colons, and well, that’s about it. Neither one really warranted a place on the card in my eyes. This is trickier to execute than you’d think. Even looking at this, it doesn’t feel totally right to me….close but no cigar. But you do the best with what’s available. Take a stab at it, it’s a fun and challenging exercise. Lemme know your thoughts and more importantly, your ideal WM card. Send them my way at WrestlezoneEric@gmail.com.
