The Biz: TNAlmost There

Hiya Wrestling fans! Welcome to another edition of The Biz. It was an exciting week in professional wrestling. Backlash is coming up this Sunday, Lockdown happened last Sunday, we have new champions, exciting matches, and I, for the first time in a long time, watched a full episode of TNA Impact.
Yes, I admit it. I haven’t watched a full episode of Impact in quite some time. Usually I’ll just check out the videos that TNA’s website posts, or I’ll check out the results posted here on wrestlezone.com. But for some reason, this week I was actually looking forward to Impact. Mick Foley addressed the Impact crowd, showcasing his new TNA World Championship. Bobby Lashley was going to make his Impact debut, a former WWE Tag Team Champion was going to debut as well. It was a star-studded show…with former WWE stars.
And therein lie the problem. I understand TNA wanting to use “big stars,” on their show. I’m one of the few that actually thinks this is a good idea. But, like most others, I do think that TNA is relying too much on these stars. That’s not to say the “big stars” don’t have a place though.
Mick Foley as TNA Champion isn’t a bad thing. I’m willing to bet that he’ll be a transitional champion, and hopefully the person that will beat him will benefit more from defeating Foley than by winning the TNA Championship. Maybe that person will benefit from both. But it’s fun to see Foley with one last championship run, especially knowing (or at least I think I know), that Foley doesn’t have that big of an ego. And seeing those segments in which Foley drops his kids off at the bus, or waiting at the airport, all the while holding onto the TNA Championship, it looks like Mick Foley is legitimately having a good time. And at this stage in his career, he deserves to have a good time.
The match between TNA Frontline(Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and Christopher Daniels) taking on the Main Event Mafia(Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, and Booker T) exemplified exactly what this storyline should have been the entire time. The TNA originals defending their company against the egocentric men that feel TNA wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for them. I wish this match would have had more attention than it did, but I’m glad it happened. Lockdown will be the first TNA DVD that I have bought in quite some time.
I’m excited for the future of TNA. With Bobby Lashley coming in and the return of Christopher Daniels, I’m excited for the potential matches that can come about. I’m praying for another rematch between AJ Styles, Daniels, and Samoa Joe. Bobby Lashley VS either Kurt Angle or Samoa Joe is a dream match. Please, TNA- don’t ruin this for me!
It’s being rumored that Taz is joining TNA, and many are speculating that he is advising Samoa Joe. This is awesome! I’ve always liked Taz. I didn’t see him much in the original ECW, but I’ve seen enough of his matches via DVD to make the assumption that he could teach Samoa Joe a lot, both in front of and behind the camera. It also gives me hope that maybe TNA can return to Taz some of the “bad-assedness” that he lost in WWE. Even if he never wrestles a match, I can see him choking out all sorts of people. I really believed that Samoa Joe was going to say “f*ck the world,” on this past Impact. If he did, I would have stood up and cheered to nobody in particular. This is an exciting time for TNA. Again, TNA, please don’t blow it!
Hey, have you seen Ring Rewind yet? It’s a new video show hosted by a strikingly good guy named Nick Perkins, and it offers a vivid perspective on the week in wrestling. Go watch it. Email me your thoughts or questions. Maybe I’ll read them on air if I like them enough. Have a good week. Watch TNA. Watch Backlash. Most importantly, watch Ring Rewind, by cliking here.. As always, I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin. K Bye.
