Nick’s Pay-Per-Review: WWE Survivor Series 2009

Traditional Elimination Tag Team Match: Team Morrison vs Team Miz: This was an excellent way to kick-off the show. I’m always in favor of beginning the Survivor Series with a match that represents the unique feel of the PPV, and this one was the right choice. It set the tone for a recurring theme last night: new talent got a chance to shine. I know a lot of people might criticize this match because talent like Evan Bourne, Finlay, Hardy and Shelton Benjamin were hardly booked, and didn’t get much of a chance to leave their mark. But again, I look at it like this: you have a short amount of time to work given the fact that there are 3 non-elimination matches booked on the card, and aside from Evan Bourne, the other 3 talents I mentioned are not the future of the company. I’m sorry to say, but Matt Hardy has been held down for so long now I don’t think he’ll ever get his chance at the top. That’s not what I think should happen with Hardy, but the reality of the way he’s been booked. Finlay and Benjamin are there, like it or not, at this point, to put over new talent. It’s that simple. So the real talent that WWE wanted to focus on in this match were guys like Sheamus, McIntyre, Morrison, The Miz, Evan Bourne and Jack Swagger. Bourne is still on the bottom end of those talents, as he has a size issue to battle, but WWE is far from giving up on him at this point. The other guys are what I think WWE truly believes are the future of the company, and they all had an excellent showing last night. Out of a possible 9 stars, I give Survivor Series’ opening contest 7 stars.
