Nick’s Picks: WrestleZone’s Annual Awards Of 2009

Best Male Wrestler of the Year: Randy Orton

I’ve felt 2009 has been Orton’s year for about 3-4 months now. He has excelled on many levels this year, and has grown into one of the most believable and consistent heels in WWE. Starting with his character, he has developed a natural approach to his performance and the subtleties of his character are fantastic. The way he moves his body and the way he slinks around in the ring really creates the sense of watching a “viper,” as old as Michael Cole has made that word. Furthermore, Orton has been able to sell some very memorable feuds this year, getting great performances out of John Cena and Triple H in high profile matches. Lastly, his best feud of 2009 against Kofi Kingston put the young star over as a legitimate main event player, and for that Orton should be commended. Randy Orton was a total package player this year, and for that he earns my nod as Male Wrestler of 2009.
