TNA: Going From “Ugly Girl” To “She Ain’t So Bad Looking”

I dare a wrestling fan to tell me that TNA doesn’t have a good amount of talent. That being said, the next step is booking them correctly. Keeping fresh plot lines, fresh match finishes and compelling television.

Drama and conflict constantly goes on behind the scenes of pro wrestling. When you are dealing with so many people who want to “get over” or have an ego to fill, sell more merchandise etc etc….than you are going to have stories.

This means that as long as these guys are in the business, there is something that can be used in the writing and booking of their characters. A writer can run out of fictional ideas, but he always has some fuel if he using real life actions to base his writing on. This is how we have so many movies that say “Based on a true story.” You take the outline of a real occurrence people can relate too and then take it to the next level.

Imagine being a high school kid and having a back yard wrestling promotion, and you base most of your stories that relate to your “trampoline fights” to drama that is taking place. You have an endless supply of ideas and content. You got your different characters and personalities that all interact and create conflict, its just what happens. So when it comes time to write an entertain script to set up the matches, you take some truth and add some creative twists.

How seriously competitive TNA can be on a weekly basis going up against RAW on Monday still has many reasons to be doubted, to me the biggest being that on the grand scale, far less people know of TNA. All of the factors that negate TNA as being major players are factors that can be dealt with and improved upon in time.

Speaking of time, perhaps the biggest factor of them all is not letting TNA get in the time machine and have Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair headline every month. You have so much talent that can work circles around Hogan and Flair on the intense schedule you need to bring your product to a larger audience. That talent will also do it for cheaper.

Hulk Hogan is Hulk Hogan, so he is going to have his thumb print no matter what. His name recognition can provide some benefit, but at the end of the day if Dixie Carter wants to increase the value of her company, let Eric be the makeover artist and Hulk be the queen of TNA (aka figurehead).
