I certainly don’t want TNA to fold. The more wrestlers employed, the better. But accountability is a strong motivator, to say nothing of unemployment. One thing should be crystal clear to TNA management: For many, this is their last shot at ever working for a significant wrestling company. They need to bear down. Concentrate on doing your job, not just keeping it.
Is TNA’s next big angle really an Extreme invasion? If so, they might as well close up shop immediately. Most of those guys never meant anything in the first place. None mean anything now. Tommy Dreamer got fired by WWE, where he never got a push. Now he’s going to come to TNA and lead the rebel faction? That’s idiotic.
I get criticized for bashing TNA. I promise to stop the minute it stops sucking. But there are a few things I like about the promotion.
The women’s division isn’t bad. Don’t get me wrong: None of them can really work, and they’ll never draw a dime. But some of the stuff TNA does with them is compelling, possibly because there aren’t any prima donnas to super-serve. And a lot of them are hot.
I love the Motor City Machine Guns. They can work, they can talk, they get the business, they love the business.
Guys like Beer Money, A.J. Styles, Desmond Wolfe, Hernandez and Homicide are big-time talents. They just don’t get used right.
Mr. Anderson may not need the machine like Jeff Hardy does. So far, so good.
Kurt Angle is the best all-around performer in wrestling today. In terms of wear-and-tear on his body and his general health, TNA is perfect for Angle. In terms of furthering his legacy, he’s in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but it’s also an admission you’re an inferior performer with nothing original to offer. Unless he sheds his Macho Man cocoon soon, and for good, that sums up Jay Lethal. I’ve enjoyed his program with Ric Flair, though.
Eric Young is TNA’s version of Bill DeMott. Everyone liked DeMott when we worked together in WCW, so he got opportunities far beyond his talent. Bad body, rotten look, crap promos, but he got the U.S. title out of pity. Young is brutal. But everyone likes him, so…
I guarantee Ink Inc. was the brainchild of Terry Taylor, the same man who brought you Hugh Morrus, the laughing man, and who wanted to bring you Bill Ding, the evil architect.
