A British Point of View ââ‚Â

Last week was the Money in the Bank PPV. A couple of good things came out of this event. Kane finally got recognition for the dedication he has put in for the  last 13 years. This was further justified by Kane himself during his opening promo to Smackdown this past Friday.

The other area of surprise for me was Sheamus. This past week is the first time I have looked at Sheamus and actually felt that he is a main eventer. Now this might sound strange for somebody who is a two time WWE champion but Sheamus actually looked like he should have been in that steel cage match with John Cena. In the past I have felt that he looks like a loose part on a machine but not now. Maybe this is because they have thrown him in my face so many times that I am bound to naturally get used to it or maybe it’s because he is gaining confidence in the way he is projecting himself.

I am currently finding his cowardly character interesting. He is reminding me of HHH when he first started to get his championship push. The only difference? HHH got the job done when he was backed against the wall.

Allow me to rewind the tape a little. HHH had become the WWE champion and it wasn’t fully accepted that he was the best in the business. The McMahon-Helmsley era was created and people started to accept his character more, however when it came to being within the ropes his performances didn’t seem to compare to The Rock’s or Stone Cold’s. Then came his rivalry to Mankind. He beat Mankind up so badly that Mic Foley brought back the character of Cactus Jack to face HHH in a streetfight at the Royal Rumble, and what happened? HHH beat Cactus Jack fairly, and that was the point when I felt HHH had cemented his place as a legitimate champion. HHH looked cowardly before the contest and even did during the early parts of the match but when he got backed into a corner he managed to beat somebody who nobody expected him too.

The same is happening with Sheamus. His character is the typical heel showing cowardly characteristics but he has yet to do what nobody expects him to do. He needs to beat John Cena fair and square. This would cement his spot as a top champion and it would never harm John Cena’s popularity.

There seems to be a growing system within the WWE of ‘He is the next…’ Jack Swagger is being moulded into the next Kurt Angle, Evan Bourne looks like the new Mysterio and Sheamus seems to be going down the similar road of HHH. No longer do I look at Sheamus and think he looks really pale and is poor on the mic (which I never thought I would say) I just wish that they would give him that one final stamp of authority with a big win over somebody clean and create options to develop his character further.

This could be done with the current Nexus angle. However they may only concentrate on John Cena (seeing asthey have announced this big tag match on RAW this past Monday.) Only time will tell and I hope that Sheamus keeps developing because as time goes on WWE needs to develop these superstars and quickly. Do you feel that Sheamus is on the brink of being big or do you feel he will fall into obscurity upon HHH’s and Ezekiel Jackson’s return to RAW? Email me your thoughts at beansontoastuk@msn.com
