Unagi Sayaka Has Had An Impressive Post-STARDOM Run As A Performer & Producer

Unagi Sayaka won multiple championships and produced her own wrestling show since leaving World Wonder Ring STARDOM.

Wrestling as a freelancer

Following the conclusion of the 5 Star Grand Prix in 2022, Unagi Sayaka announced that she would begin performing as a freelance wrestler. She continued to make a name for herself by competing in multiple promotions since then. Such promotions in Japan include Diana, Sendai Girls, and AJPW, among others. However, Unagi has also competed overseas with notable appearances in Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) against Billie Starkz and LuFisto.

US-based joshi companies such as Sukeban and Kitsune Women’s Wrestling even had Unagi compete for their respective inaugural championships. Unagi went on to win the Kitsune World Championship, and she has held the title since then.

As of the time of writing, Unagi also reigns as JTO Girls Champion and DDT Iron Man Heavy Metal Champion. However, being a wrestler and champion is only a part of what Unagi has achieved in the past year.

Unagi Sayaka holds her first show

In October of 2023, Unagi expressed her interest in producing her own wrestling show similar to Sareee‘s work for Sareee-ISM. Her plans of becoming a producer came into fruition come January 7th earlier this year. Not only did she spearhead as a producer, Unagi also competed in three out of the seven matches on the card. Despite the losing effort, she teamed up with Konami in the main event tag match against Masato Tanaka and Minoru Suzuki.

Unagi’s produce show saw major success, selling out the Korakuen Hall venue with 1230 fans in attendance.

While her second produce show is yet to be announced, there is no doubt that Unagi Sayaka will remain in the conversation of the top joshi performers with added experience overseas. She is currently signed to Sukeban under the moniker Ichigo Sayaka, so it may not be long before US-based wrestling fans are treated to more of Unagi in live action.
