Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas came a long way from a smiling babyface wearing suspenders to the cocky, confident upstart managed by Zelina Vega. She helped him become NXT Champion and his first defence took place against Johnny Gargano, who had earned the title opportunity in a Fatal-4-Way.
The two faced off at Philadelphia for the third time and this time, the NXT Championship was on the line. The two would work a methodical, perfectly constructed match that got the quiet crowd to roar in a matter of time. They were given the right amount of time. With Candice LeRae at ringside, she was introduced to the NXT Universe when she attacked Zelina Vega, who constantly tried to help Almas beat Gargano.
Despite being neutralized, Almas managed to beat Gargano in the end by the skin of his teeth. Post-match, Ciampa would return from injury and strike Gargano in the back with a crutch.
