AEW Dynamite Review: Hits And Misses For February 19

Welcome (or welcome back) to our weekly AEW Dynamite hits and misses series where we recap all the good and bad from the show. Here’s what went down on the February 19 episode:

Miss – Hangman Page and MJF’s promo segment

AEW failed terribly if they were trying to recreate the iconic exchange between MJF and CM Punk from three years ago. The shots Page and MJF took at each other didn’t do it for this writer. They could’ve pulled the curtain with a reference to MJF no-showing a fan signing during his feud with Wardlow. That would’ve been something.

Both guys felt like they were trying hard to get fans to buy into their promo. The post-promo brawl got the crowd pumped, as did Christopher Daniels’ appearance.

Hit – The Opps vs. The Patriarchy on AEW Dynamite

Fun opening contest between Samoa Joe’s group against Christian Cage and his sons. Cage tagging Nick Wayne because he didn’t want to face Joe was hilarious. We’ll probably get a match between these six men on the road to Revolution 2025 before Christian Cage tries to cash-in his contract for a major title.

Miss – The Death Riders are scared…

The Death Riders look tough but they sure can’t act tough with Cope and Jay around. Mox’s promo before the physicality sounded similar to what his former Shield brother told a certain Beast years ago.

Cope will hunt down every member of The Death Rider in the lead-up to Revolution, where they’ll probably show up again or Adam will get betrayed by a certain Switchblade.

Hit – Street Fight on AEW Dynamite

Hobbs and Bill delivered a damn entertaining Street Fight. Hobbs busted open early because a took a back full of bricks to the head. Big Bill got the same fate handed to him. Poor Bryan Keith had to go through a table. The ending felt a bit lame with the referee counting to 10 because Big Bill got stuck in a barbed wire.

Miss – What was that ft. Megan Bayne, Penelope Ford and Thunder Rosa

Did these three women forget their spots post-match between Bayne and Statlander? Rosa didn’t swing the chair because Penelope Ford got in her way. I couldn’t make sense of anything that happened. It seems the three women weren’t able to either.

Hit – Roderick Strong vs. Orange Cassidy on AEW Dynamite

This was a really fun main event match featuring Strong and Cassidy. Cassidy got his payback (and a title shot) for the loss he suffered at the hands of Strong at Revolution 2024. Strong remains one of the most reliable workers on the AEW roster. The post-match angle saw Kenny Omega make the save for Cassidy from Takeshita and Davis.

Honorable Mentions

  • Toni Storm celebrated her AEW Women’s World Championship win with a live promo on AEW Dynamite. Storm referenced her small package spot by mixing it up with the sexual innuendos in the best possible way. She’s great. Let’s see if we get Toni Storm versus Mariah May III somewhere down the line.
  • I’m really digging Ricochet’s direction in AEW. He’s quickly become one of the most hated heels on the roster. The promo last night was fun to listen to. Prince Nana’s part feels like a betrayal is around the corner. Ricochet’s laugh was the right way to cap off the promo exchange.
