Welcome or welcome back to our weekly AEW Dynamite hits and misses series where we recap all that’s good and bad from the show.
Hit – Another AEW Dynamite banger from Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay versus Brian Cage was a great opening match. Ospreay would’ve jobbed to Cage if this happened a few years ago. He’s a bigger star than Cage was when he was the IMPACT World Champion. They finally let Styles Clash go over. It’s frustrating to see iconic finishers reduced to signature moves. This writer has the same opinion on how WWE superstars use the Pedigree or the Stunner. Anyways, seeing Ospreay crawl on top of Omega to save him from Family beatdown was weird given their past tumultuous history.
Miss – Claudio Castagnoli needs help against Double J
They just threw logic out of the window with this one. Castagnoli didn’t need the assistance from Yuta and Mox to pick up the win. He was wrestling a god da*n 57-year-old man. Jarrett was never a threat to Mox. Even Yuta would’ve picked him apart. At least, Double J isn’t chasing the world champion anymore (for now…). I like how they kept MJF’s part short and simple. The seeds for their MJF versus Jeff Jarrett have been planted.
Hit – Ricochet vs. AR Fox on AEW Dynamite
This was another great performance from Fox after his match against Swerve Strickland. Ricochet versus fans has become a new favorite of this writer. Ricochet using Fox as his shield was some cool stuff. Strickland is going to kill Trevor next week on AEW Dynamite.
Miss – Wheeler Yuta vs. Jay White
This match went far too long. White needs to be established as a legitimate problem for Mox. He should’ve won fairly quickly against Mox’s henchman. The reversal into Blade Runner will always be a thing of beauty.
Hit – Mercedes Moné vs. Yuka Sakazaki for the TBS Championship
Another great title defense for Mone thanks to a brilliant opponent in Sakazaki. This writer has become a fan of Mone’s title run just because of the quality of opponents she’s had. AEW seems to be struggling with the same when it comes to Mariah May’s title run. Let’s see if Toni Storm goes after the TBS title once she’s done with May and the world championship.
