Penta’s 5 Best Matches In AEW

Penta has taken the WWE Universe by storm. He might be new to some WWE fans, but those who watched him impress in AEW and TNA/IMPACT know how exciting he is in the ring.

We (usually) rank matches here strictly based on this writer’s opinion. However, for Penta’s 5 best matches in AEW, we’ve decided to include the Cagematch ratings. These are the five best (singles, tag team or trios matches) featuring Penta while he was in AEW, according to Cagematch (and yours truly).

AEW Best Moves - The Elite vs Death Triangle - Falls Count Anywhere Match - 12/28/22

Death Triangle vs. The Elite

  • AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash 2022
  • Stipulation – Falls Count Anywhere
  • Cagematch Rating – 8.93

Match six of the Best of 7 Series between Death Triangle and The Elite took place on the final Dynamite of 2022. This was a highly-competitive match with both teams making rampant use of foreign objects to gain the upper hand.

After nearly 18 minutes of hard-hitting action, which had Omega dropping Fenix with a One Winged Angel from the rafters, Death Triangle picked up the win. The Elite would tie the score two weeks later on Dynamite.

Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs The Lucha Bros Dynamite 19/2/20 Highlights

Adam Page & Kenny Omega vs. Penta & Rey Fenix

  • AEW Dynamite #20
  • Stipulation – Tag Team Match for the AEW World Tag Team Title
  • Cagematch Rating – 8.92

Omega and Page’s run with the tag team titles isn’t talked about enough. Both men had some stellar defenses before and during the pandemic. One of their better matches came against Penta and Rey Fenix on the 20th episode of Dynamite.

This was a PPV quality match on a weekly episode of Dynamite. The storytelling was top notch with Pentagon and Fenix proving to be legitimate threats to the tag team champions. Page and Omega retained the titles to set up their all-time classic with the Bucks at Revolution 2020.

AEW World Trios Championship Death Triangle vs The Elite Best of 7 Series COMPLETE

Death Triangle vs. The Elite

  • PPV: Full Gear 2022
  • Stipulation: World Trios Title Best of 7 Series Match 1
  • Cagematch Rating: 9.07

The buildup to this match was overshadowed by Brawl Out. Despite that, neither team let backstage shenanigans affect the quality of this match. In fact, the trios title match turned out to be the highest Cagematch rated bout on the card and the third highest-rated AEW match featuring Penta.

While both teams couldn’t keep up the momentum this match set, they kept the fans hooked through a series of engaging outings that ended with The Elite beating Death Triangle for the AEW World Trios Tag Team Championship on Dynamite.

AEW All Out Part 2 8/31/19

The Lucha Bros vs. The Young Bucks

  • PPV – All Out 2019
  • Stipulation – Ladder
  • Cagematch Rating – 9.14

The inaugural All Out PPV featured AEW OGs. This very PPV saw the crowning of the inaugural AEW World Champion when Chris Jericho beat Hangman Page for the title. While Jericho’s win was a history-making moment in itself, the match paled in comparison to the penultimate main event ladder match between The Lucha Bros. and the Bucks.

This match may have been a spotfest in some eyes but the fast-paced action and the eye-opening sequences made it one of the craziest and (arguably) greatest matches in AEW history. From the piledrivers on the ladder to Fenix’s high-risk taking dives, the ladder match at AEW All Out definitely put both teams among the very best in the world.

Young Bucks Vs Lucha Brothers -Steel Cage Match - AEW All OUT 2021 - Highlights.

Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson vs. Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix

  • PPV – All Out 2021
  • Stipulation – Steel Cage
  • Cagematch Rating – 9.49

If I’m correct, this is one of the highest-rated AEW matches on Cagematch – and for a good number of reasons. The Lucha Bros. and Bucks had a fierce rivalry heading into All Out 2021. The point of contention was the AEW World Tag Team Championship. The Bucks had a solid run at that time but the fans really wanted Penta and Fenix to capture the belts.

Fast forward to in-ring action, and the two teams had some impeccable exchanges. All the near falls led to desperate attempts from both teams to pick up the win. Bucks went a step further when they introduced thumb-tac shoes to the mix. The violence only added to the terrific visual and the tremendous crowd reaction – making for a fitting conclusion to his feud.
