Welcome or welcome back to our weekly AEW Dynamite review series where we recap some of the biggest hits and underwhelming moments from the show.
Enjoy!
Hit – Will Ospreay vs Buddy Matthews
What a fantastic way to kick off AEW Dynamite! Ospreay can’t seem to have a bad match at this point. Matthews is highly underrated. Hopefully, Tony Khan will put him in a major spot at Dynamite: Grand Slam Australia. The post-match promo from Ospreay seemingly hinted at Malakai Black’s contract status with AEW.
Miss – Casino Gauntlet on AEW Dynamite
The in-ring chaos failed to make up for the stacked line-up. Putting members of the same team such as Undisputed Kingdom was a smart move – helps preserve the title’s importance. Ricochet trolling Adam Page with Swerve’s music was hilarious. Hobbs winning makes sense because he’s unfinished business with Mox.
Hit – Bobby Lashley vs. Mark Briscoe
A fun scrap between Lashley and Briscoe, who seems to perfectly fit in the veteran’s role, following Hurt Syndicate’s hijacking of Private Party’s celebration. They should let MVP takeover the commentary for Hurt Syndicate’s matches. He’s really good at what he does. The post-match angle hinted at a potential tag team title match between Private Party and the Hurt Syndicate.
Miss – MJF and Jeff Jarrett segment on AEW Dynamite
AEW better drop this segment if they want MJF to put Jarrett through a series of roadblocks before they face each other. It feels so repetitive and annoying. Max spilling Double J’s contract details was a prick move, but what else would you expect from a prick like MJF the Salt of the Earth? Let’s see how this feud goes.
Hit – Women’s triple threat
The ladies killed it. Statlander and Nightingale teased unfinished business but they rather not because Statlander has been on a roll with some killer matches. Toni’s post-match interview with Renee was great. Fans will have to wait because we might not be getting Toni Storm versus Mariah May II until All In Texas.
Miss – Rated FTR and Death Riders go at it
This writer is tired of Death Riders at this point. They could’ve just jumped on Powerhouse Hobbs because it was four-on-one instead of having them leave the ring like a bunch of scared rats. Ain’t nothing tough about that. Hobbs won’t win because we still have to witness Mox vs. Cope for the AEW World Championship.
Hit – Old foes come face-to-face on AEW Dynamite
Omega got his hands on Callis but his goons arrived to be the difference makers. Kenny took some body shots because he still have to sell his diverticulitis. Ospreay’s run-in was a surprise and teased an alliance with his old rival. It seems we’ll be getting a tag team match featuring Omega and Opreay against two members of the Callis family after Omega takes on Cage at AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage.
