Welcome to our WWE NXT New Year’s Evil review where we will be recapping some of the biggest highlights (and downsides) from the show. So, without wasting any time, let’s begin.
Roxanne Perez vs. Giulia kicked off NXT New Year’s Evil

This was a lot better than Roxanne Perez versus Giulia one. Almost all of the WWE Universe expected Giulia to win, which she did in convincing fashion. The Cora Jade run-in could’ve been avoided because that wouldn’t amount to much, assuming Roxanne is main roster bound, and she better be. This writer can see Giulia having a lengthy run with the title. Hopefully, it’ll be a good one.
A new contender emerged for the NXT Women’s North American Championship

Putting Stephanie Vaquer in the match meant there was no way any other of the three ladies could’ve come out the winner. Stephanie has turned out to be one of WWE NXT’s best acquisitions of 2024. Her in-ring work is second to none. The presentation’s great. She has what it takes to be a great midcard champion before eventually gunning for the main title. As for the match, this was a standard four-way. Stephanie pinning Kelani could possibly fuel the latter’s heel turn.
Shotzi picked up the win for her team at WWE NXT New Year’s Evil

Fallon Henley was great in this match. Paxley is fascinating to watch. That said, this writer has mixed thoughts about Shotzi pinning Fallon Henley. Obviously they want Stephanie to square off with an established NXT veteran but Fallon shouldn’t be booked to look weak. She could’ve cheated to win to Shotzi might’ve another reason to go after her.
Lexis King vs. Charlie Dempsey for the NXT Heritage Cup

This was a solid Heritage Cup mean. Both men were battered towards the end. King inadvertently hit Dempsey below the belt. He struggled for a moment but went with The Coronation for the win. This writer still refuses to buy King as a clean-cut babyface because he just works better as a heel.
Oba Femi dethroned Trick Williams for the gold

This match should’ve got more time because this writer would’ve loved to see Trick and Oba run it back (without Thorpe’s involvement). Hopefully, the screwy finish will led to Trick versus Oba in singles action. The shot of Giulia and Oba showcasing their titles was great. That should’ve been the end to NXT New Year’s Evil and none the promo we got from The Rock.

The Rock does what he wants, when he wants, even if that means hijacking the last part of the show. This writer did like Rock’s interaction with Ethan Page in the middle of the show. Page is one of the best villains on NXT and he, hopefully, will be a major player in 2025. Rock could’ve just appeared after the show to address fans. That still would’ve got WWE massive numbers on social media.
