The final WWE RAW of 2024 (and cable television) went down at Houston’s Toyota Center in Texas. The New Day, Jey Uso, Raquel Rodriguez, IYO SKY and more worked the show this week. Here’s what went down on the December 30 episode of RAW.
Hit – Chad Gable vs. Otis
Though this feud should’ve ended months ago, Chad Gable versus Otis ended up being the right mix of wrestling and entertainment. The crowd was red hot for Otis. Gable’s delayed suplex on the 300lbs+ Otis was a thing of beauty. The Creed boys did their little run-in but Otis took care of them. The distraction was all Gable needed to pick up a submission win.
Miss – R-Truth vs. Pete Dunne on WWE RAW
This writer hasn’t been able to understand WWE’s logic behind doing R-Truth versus Pete Dunne. The whole “don’t call me BUTCH” trope has gotten stale. Dunne needs better booking if he wants to remain relevant on the main roster.
Hit – Six-man tag team match
We got new entrance music for The Judgment Day ahead of the match, which saw Priest get some good momentum. Babyface Priest is actually over with the crowd. That said, RAW needs to find some good competition for The War Raiders or they’ll risk turning their title reign stale.
Miss – Lyra Valkyria advances to Women’s IC Title final
This writer feels IYO SKY would’ve been a better pick. Lyra is a tremendous competitor but she lacks charisma big time. IYO’s win would’ve made things interesting because we’ve got Dakota Kai on the other side. The Women’s Intercontinental Championship Tournament Final between Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria will take place on the January 13 episode of WWE RAW.
Hit – CM Punk and Seth Rollins segment on WWE RAW
It’s hard to take sides when both of these superstars have got valid arguments. Rollins hates Punk for abandoning the ship. Punk blames Vince McMahon for ruining his love for the business. Both men are second to none when it comes to blurring lines between kayfabe and reality. Their match on RAW’s Netflix premiere would be a banger.
Honorable Mentions
- The crowd, once again, didn’t let New Day speak. It’s fascinating to see one of the most over tag teams in WWE get booed mercilessly by the fans. The transition from New Day to Drew McIntyre and Jey Uso brawl was cool. Both men will be in action next Monday.
- Sheamus returned to RAW just in time to shut Ludwig Kaiser up. This writer has always been a fan of the Celtic Warrior. Hopefully, the feud will be used to elevate Kaiser to the next level and make him a must-see attraction in 2025.
