As 2024 draws to a close, we look at the WWE stars (and factions) that had all the momentum but couldn’t do exactly what they wanted. But before we jump to the list, let’s see which stars have taken the most number of losses (pinfalls, submission, DQs) inside the ring. Please note that this won’t be the criteria for the actual list because that’s mostly about stars that’ve lost major feuds and titles.
So, Shinsuke Nakamura and Dominik Mysterio both are closing out 2024 with the most number of losses. Nakamura’s stars (at the time of this writing) are 52 losses in 56 matches he’s had this year. As for Dominik, the former two-time NXT North American Champion lost 50 times in the 61 matches during 2024. Dom’s fellow Judgment Day buddies JD and Balor aren’t far behind either. when it comes to matches lost.
Now, let’s get to WWE stars with the biggest losses in 2024:
American Made didn’t win any major WWE feud
American Made had tremendous potential when they got paired months ago. Fans had been wanting WWE to pair Chad Gable with Diamond Mine. Their prayers were finally answered but it seems the booking isn’t what most of us had wanted to see. Early during their formation, American Made were fed to the Wyatts. The feud almost got Chad Gable killed.
American Made had a brief feud with The LWO before getting to The Alpha Academy. At the time of this writing, the feud is still set for RAW. Hopefully, 2025 will be much better for American Made. The group really needs some big wins and (possibly) some gold around their waist.
From New Day to Bad Day
After working as fan favorites for a decade, The New Day finally embraced their dark side in 2024. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods spent months teasing implosion with Woods becoming more and more involved in controversial tactics to win matches. The September 16 episode of RAW saw both men deliver one of the most heated exchanges on WWE TV that received widespread acclaim from fans and peers alike.
But fans weren’t prepared for what was to come. On the 10th anniversary of their debut as a group, Kofi and Xavier shocked the world when the turned on Big E. Their actions caused Rey Mysterio to kick them out of the locker room. For Kofi, things only got worse as his mom refused to hug him on the December 23 episode of RAW. It seems things will only get worse as far as fan reception go for The New Day.
Rhea Ripley lost her title… and her Latino Heat
Rhea Ripley was unstoppable until she got put on the shelf by Liv Morgan. The injured forced Mami to miss months of action. In her absence, Liv Morgan defeated Becky Lynch to become the WWE Women’s World Champion. She’d retain the title against Rhea at SummerSlam before sealing her alliance with Dominik Mysterio with a kiss.
Things got only worse from Rhea as she failed to take the title away from Liv Morgan. Without Judgment Day and Dominik, Mami struggled to make strides and reclaim the title she never lost. At the time of this writing, Rhea Ripley versus Liv Morgan is set for RAW’s Netflix premiere. It remains to be seen which of these two women will walk out with the title on January 6.
Drew McIntyre struggled against CM Punk
2024 couldn’t have been any worse for Drew McIntyre. Just when the Scottish Warrior thought he had it all, CM Punk rained on his parade. The Straight Edge Superstar cost McIntyre his moment on four different occasions. He even traveled all the way to Scotland to pull the trigger on the Glasgow Screwjob. If that’s not your player hater of the year, then you must be living under a rock.
The rivalry saw both men face each other on three occasions. Drew won the first bout. Punk evened the score in the strap match. The final match in this epic trilogy took place inside Hell in a Cell. After putting each other through hell for over 30 minutes, Punk put an end to his bloodbath with McIntyre for good.
Roman Reigns lost his status as the face of WWE
Once the be-all, end-all of WWE, Roman Reigns suffered the biggest loss of his career when he lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. If that wasn’t enough, his own Enforcer Solo Sikoa took The Bloodline away from Reigns by declaring himself The ‘New’ Tribal Chief. Solo’s attempts at creating The Bloodline in his image led to the arrival of the Tongans and Jacob Fatu in WWE.
Don’t get us wrong, the win was huge for Cody, but Reigns losing set him on another course in WWE. Despite getting some advantage against the rogue Bloodline, Reigns has yet to have a decisive win over Solo and his crew. Not only has Solo pinned Reigns, he’s taken hold of the ulafala to show he means business. Solo’s actions have forced Reigns to make amends with past enemies but how far is too far for The OTC.
It remains to be seen if Roman Reigns will regain his position and banish the outlaw Bloodline for good when he and Solo go one-on-one come January 6.
