WWE NXT Review: Hits And Misses For December 17

WWE NXT went back on the road for this week’s episode. Last night’s show saw two tag team title defenses. We also got treated to a women’s singles and tag team match. So, without wasting any more time, let’s jump right to the NXT hits and misses for December 17.

Hit – Women’s tag team match on WWE NXT

This was a solid tag team match with the right team picking up the win. NXT seems to be the most consistent brand out of the three WWE programs when it comes to established teams winning matches against one-time partners.

Having ZARIA and Ruca lose to Meta-Girls isn’t exactly an odd booking choice. It shows that Jackson and Legend have tons of experience when it comes to tag matches.

Miss – Jaida Parker vs. Wren Sinclair

Outside Jaida’s momentum, this was a pretty standard match. It did get its point across with the win for Jaida. She’s the most charismatic out of OTM and one of the most charismatic superstars on the WWE NXT roster. Wren looks to be improving with every outing. It was the right decision to pair her with No Quarter Catch Crew.

Hit – WWE NXT Tag Team Championship match

Fraxiom is the best tag team on the WWE roster right now. This writer dares teams from SmackDown and RAW show up on NXT and outperform Fraxiom. These guys complement each other so very well.

This writer is probably past the point of caring for a Fraxiom breakup and more concerned with action that goes down inside the ring. Why? Because Shawn Michaels didn’t pull the trigger when the time called for it.

Miss – Unholy Union appears

This writer is all about veterans showing up on WWE NXT to help build superstars. That said, Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn’s appearance was a miss because NXT already has a stacked women’s division. It seems that the main roster doesn’t have plans for the Unholy Union at the time of this writing. At least Shawn Michaels knows where to place his superstars on the two-hour show.

Hit – Ethan Page loses his smile

You have to love it when Shawn Michaels rehashes one of his old segments just to pop up the crowd. Ethan Page just gets it. The way he uttered “lost my smile” line with the dejected look was just brilliant. Je’Von Evans should’ve just stayed in the back. As a matter of fact, it was Evans who ended up losing his smile because Page busted him up big time.

One more interesting detail about the whole segment was that this was in the Lowell Auditorium, the same venue where Michaels cut his infamous “lost my smile” promo in 1997.

Miss – Trick Williams vs. Eddy Thorpe on WWE NXT

Eddy doesn’t have it but the creative seems to have big things planned for him. The match was decent and the controversial ending made it seem like a big thing. Thorpe shaving Shawn Michaels was, without a doubt, the biggest highlight but it took place after the show went off the air. Let’s see if and how the former Heartbreak Kid responds to Thorpe’s assault.
