Welcome to our preview of the 2024 WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The iconic event returns on December 14 at Long Island’s Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York. So make sure to tune into NBC (or Peacock if you have a subscription) at 8 pm ET to watch your favorite superstars and legends on screen.
Speaking of legends, Hall of Famer Jesse “The Body” Ventura returns to commentary booth this weekend. Click here to read what Ventura had to say about his upcoming return to WWE TV.
WWE will also crown an inaugural Women’s United States Champion. However, the final round match is not finalized. Both semi-finals matches will go down on SmackDown on Friday.
That said, let’s get right to our WWE Saturday Night Main Event 2024 preview and predictions.
Sami Zayn vs. Drew McIntyre at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
Preview: Drew McIntyre made his return to RAW at the expense of Sami Zayn. The Scottish Warrior called out Sami and Jey for siding with CM Punk and Roman Reigns at Survivor Series: WarGames. Sami challenged Drew to a match for SNME on RAW this past Monday. Drew accepted by once again blindsiding Sami with an attack.
Prediction: This is the least compelling feud on this five-match card. WWE seems to have rushed with Sami Zayn vs. Drew McIntyre for Saturday Night’s Main Event. Yes, Drew’s reason for attacking Zayn makes sense from a storyline perspective but Jey (ideally) would’ve been a compelling opponent. As for the match outcome, Drew goes over this Saturday.
Liv Morgan (c) vs. IYO SKY – WWE Women’s World Championship
Preview: IYO SKY won a battle royal on 11/4 WWE RAW to become the number one contender to the Women’s World Championship. Both women would collide in the Women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series. The match saw Rhea Ripley hit Liv Morgan with a riptide on a table for the win. Rhea and IYO teased some tension on the final RAW before WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event after IYO helped Mami fend off Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.
Prediction: IYO may be one of the top women on the WWE roster but 2024 belongs to Liv Morgan, who recently hit 200 days as Women’s World Champion. Liv’s work this year has been nothing short of impressive. The partnership with The Judgment Day (and Raquel) is continuing to work in her favor. IYO is untouchable in the ring but this writer doesn’t see her winning the title this Saturday at the Coliseum.
Gunther (c) vs. Damian Priest vs. Finn Balor – WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Preview: Finn Balor cost Damian Priest his world title match against Gunther at Survivor Series: WarGames. Balor then proclaimed himself the number one contender by attacking the Ring General on RAW the following night. However, Adam Pearce inserted Priest into the mix — much to Balor’s chagrin — turning the world title match into a triple threat at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Prediction: Triple threat matches usually make for interesting outcomes. It’s one way to protect the champion by not having him take the pin. This writer won’t mind seeing Balor add another gold to his waist this Saturday. He’s among the most consistent and dependable stars on the roster. On the contrary, a win for Gunther would only add to his illustrious resume, and that too, before a potential move to SmackDown.
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens – Undisputed WWE Championship
Preview: Kevin Owens attacked Cody Rhodes after Bad Blood 2024. The whole ordeal was caught on ‘fan cam.’ Both men spent the next few weeks taking shots at each other. Owens made matter worse by taking out Randy Orton with a piledriver. His actions forced WWE to ban him from arenas. Still, KO made it to WWE programming by recording himself calling out Rhodes in his rental.
Prediction: This storyline is by far the best thing going on SmackDown. It has a lot of references to Owens’ past work in ROH, which this writer thinks makes for a great throwback. WWE, it seems, is starting to test the waters for Cody’s potential heel turn with this feud. While Cody retaining his title looks like the most obvious outcome, it would be interesting if Owens takes the W (and the Winged Eagle Belt) at Saturday Night’s Main Event to spice things up for 2025.
