Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly WWE NXT hits and misses series.
Last night’s NXT went down at the 2300 Arena (the former home of ECW) in Philadelphia. The NXT Universe witnessed a hardcore match and a great 10-woman tag team main event. A couple of legends swung by as well.
Here’s what went down on the November 6 episode of NXT.
Hit – Jaida Parker & Lola Vice go hardcore
This was a great match to kick off NXT 2300. Jaida Parker and Lola Vice absolutely knocked it out of the park. The use of kendo sticks, chairs and trash cans gave an ECW-esque feel to the match. Vice took some serious bumps. The ladder and brick spots were wild.
The hip attack didn’t look like it connected despite Parker giving it some extra momentum. Last but not least, having Dawn Marie officiate the match was a solid way to familiarize ECW with new-generation NXT fans.
Miss – Bully Ray & Trick Williams vs. Ridge Holland & Ethan Page
This match came off as a major disappointment to me for a couple of reasons. The in-ring action was meh. Holland pinning Trick made the champion look weak. NXT is really lacking in depth when it comes to heels. Ethan Page did a great job. Holland doesn’t have the charisma it takes to be a convincing heel. I knew D-Von was going to show up. We should’ve got a 3D on the table.
Hit – Je’Von Evans vs. Wes Lee on WWE NXT
Wes Lee attacked RVD prior to the match so the WWE Hall of Famer had to show up. This was a great back-and-forth contest between two amazing high-flyers. Lee, surprisingly, relied on ground offense against the much taller Evans – which I thought was great strategy. The brain buster spot was nasty. They should’ve used it towards the end of the match to add some intrigue to the climax. Everybody knew Evans was going to win. RVD should’ve arrived after the match to assist Evans because that leaves room open for Evans versus Lee II, which, honestly, I won’t mind.
Miss – Tony D’Angelo vs. Nunzio
A squash match for Tony D so early in his title reign is an underwhelming booking decision, in my opinion. Guess beating Oba Femi really made Don invincible. Nunzio did what he could with the opportunity. At least, we got another viral moment of Nunzio taking a finisher 20 years after getting wrecked by Goldberg.

Hit – Women’s tag team main event on WWE NXT
The women of NXT were the stars once again this week. NXT 2300 gave a star-studded main event featuring the likes of Roxanne Perez, Stephanie Vaquer, and Jordynne Grace. These 10 women delivered a great wrestling match. ZARIA spearing Jordynne was an OMG moment for me. Are we getting ZARIA versus Jordynne in the aftermath of the 10-woman tag team match? I’m all in.
Honorable Mention
- Mr. Stone took a spear from Rhyno for insulting the Philadelphia crowd with the New York reference. All in all, it was a solid night for WWE’s third brand as it allowed the young superstars to interact with the legends. The cold open was dope as hell. Only if Paul Heyman could’ve somehow showed up.
