WWE NXT Review: Hits And Misses For October 29

Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly WWE NXT hits and misses series.

Last night’s NXT was the fallout episode for Halloween Havoc. For those who missed out on the PLE, head over to this link for our NXT Halloween Havoc review.

That said, let’s begin with the hits and misses from October 29 NXT.

Miss – First-ever women’s casket match in WWE

I wasn’t high on this feud to begin with. The casket match didn’t help raise my hopes either. Paxley is over with the WWE NXT crowd. The problem is with Wendy Choo’s gimmick. She doesn’t seem to connect with the fans. As for in-ring action, it was decent at best. Winning the first-ever women’s casket match in WWE is Paxley’s biggest accomplishment to date. Congrats!

Hit – Lexis King refuses outside help

Imagine a heel saying no to outside help. That is what Lexis King told William Regal when the veteran tried to hand him a pair of brass knuckles. I’m still not convinced King is the good guy in this feud. It seems Regal only wanted to test King. His refusal may have planted the seeds for a Regal-Dempsey pairing down the line.

Miss – Kelani Jordan vs. Nikkita Lyons on WWE NXT

Kelani Jordan was fast, maybe too fast for Nikkita Lyons. There were times when the action seemed out of place. Lizzo coming out to cause a distraction for Nikkita set up a feud between the pair. But did Oba Femi tell Nikkita to take out Lizzo in the first place, or was it Nikkita’s own intuition?

Hit – ZARIA gets huge help against the heels

ZARIA absolutely obliterated Brinley Reece to make a huge statement. That is how you book a big indie name for their debut match. The post-match angle was just amazing. NXT may be WWE’s version of Stardom when it comes to women’s wrestling. There is so much talent in the same ring. The 10-woman tag team match next week is going to be awesome.

Miss – Axiom and Nathan Frazer retain the WWE NXT Tag Team Championship

What a match! Both teams just killed it in the ring. Je’Evon Evans and Cedric Alexander have such good chemistry. Axiom and Frazer are, in my opinion, one of the best NXT Tag Team Champions ever. That said, the pairing has run its course. The NXT Universe wanted new champions last night. Let’s see if we get a turn next week in Philadelphia.

Honorable Mention

  • Rhea Ripley showing up was a brilliant surprise. Even Mami can’t help by express her approval of the super-stacked NXT women’s division. The angle with Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan was cool. WWE NXT is on CW is starting to push the envelope, and I’m all here for it.
  • Bubba Dudley cut a solid promo to set up the tag team match featuring Trick Williams, Ethan Page, and Ridge Holland next week. Holland held more than his own with his promo referencing all the legends criticizing today’s product on social media. Wrestling is always better when it blurs the line between fiction and reality.
