WWE NXT Hits And Misses (5/28/24)

It’s time for the WWE NXT recap.

This week’s show featured a celebrity appearance and much more. The final two competitors in the six-pack ladder match at NXT Battleground were determined as well. The main event sent shockwaves across the wrestling community.

These are the biggest hits and misses from the May 28, 2024, episode of WWE NXT.

Hit – Sexyy Red unveils NXT Women’s North American Title

NXT GM Ava kicked off the show with a special announcement. Ava introduced special guest for the night, rapper Sexyy Red, to the ring. Not only did Red unveil the brand new Women’s North American Championship, she said she’d be the host of NXT Battleground. Tatum Paxley tried to take the belt away from Red but was taken care of by Michin, who advanced to the ladder match.

No matter how the internet loves to troll celebrities, they are always going to bring more eyes to the product. Sexyy Red has been a lifelong fan of WWE and her arrival certainly brought more eyes to the new title. She almost got physical with Paxley until Michin arrived to kick off the North American title qualifier.

Miss – Lola Vice vs. Arianna Grace

Bianca Carelli portrays a convincing Arianna Grace on WWE NXT. That said, she needs to get proper TV time to showcase her wrestling skills as well. Last night’s match with Lola Vice was more of a squash. Lola picked up the win ahead of her gimmick match against Baszler at NXT Battleground.

The prelude to Lola Vice versus Arianna Grace was great though, and much of that credit goes to Arianna’s comic timing. The way they added the NXT logo to censor the curse word from Arianna was pretty creative. Also, Lola and Baszler almost came to blow following Miss Vice’s win over Arianna.

Hit – TNA x WWE NXT

Roxanne Perez arrived to the ring to cut a promo. The two-time NXT Women’s Champion berated Ava before asking for her NXT Battleground opponent. Ava came to the ramp and introduce Roxanne and the WWE NXT Universe to the champion’s opponent. Nobody, and I mean nobody, could’ve expected Jordynne Grace to pop up as the challenger.

I’m not going to thrown the term Forbidden Door in here because WWE has collaborated with other promotions in the past. I’m just grateful than the current WWE regime is open to forging a working relationship with companies such as TNA and AJPW. For those unaware of Jordynne, you guys really need to watch her TNA stuff.

She’s awesome. Oh, and she’ll be in action next week on WWE NXT.

Miss – Lexis King misses the spot (literally)

Lexis King interrupted Dante Chen’s talk with the NXT men’s locker room last night. King told Chen his last week’s win was a fluke. Chen told him they could run it back. The two got in the ring and Chen picked up a quick win only to get destroyed by King in a post-match assault.

Lexis King removed the mat outside to expose the concrete. He then hit Chen with his finisher on the concrete. Chen took the move on the mat instead of the concrete. Either there was a miscommunication, or Chen was never meant to hit the concrete.

A table or ringside steel steps spot could’ve been better.

Hit – WWE NXT is All Ego

Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans came to the ring with Sexyy Red in their corner. The duo took on Mark and Joe Coffey in the main event. Evans looked incredible with his aerial offense. Sexyy Red distracted Gallus long enough for Trick to pick up the win for his team. After the match, Lash Legend came to the ring and asked Trick if he had attacked Noam Dar and Oro Mensah. The lights went out and came back to reveal Ethan Page, who took out both Lash and Trick.

Page is the latest AEW star to jump ship over to WWE following Shawn Spears, who returned to NXT a couple of months ago. All Ego is a tremendous talent. He can cut a solid promo and is great between the ropes. They are already treating him like a big deal by putting him in a feud with NXT Champion Trick Williams. Page revealed he was the one who took out Dar and Mensah. It remains to be seen if Page vs. Williams will headline NXT Battleground.
