WWE RAW Preview (5/20/24)

It’s almost time for WWE RAW.

This week’s edition of the red brand takes place live at the Greensboro Coliseum, NC. Tonight is also the final RAW before King and Queen of the Ring PLE in Saudi Arabia.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the match card.

Chad Gable vs. Sami Zayn

Chad Gable’s betrayal of Sami Zayn set the stage for an epic showdown between the two former friends. The Alpha Academy leader turned heel on the Intercontinental Champion following an epic title defense on the April 15, 2024, episode of WWE RAW.

Gable would spend the following weeks berating the Alpha Academy amid his feud with Zayn. However, his ambitions caused him to turn a blind eye toward Bronson Reed, who inserted himself into the mix a couple of weeks ago.

Following Zayn’s win over Otis last week on RAW, Gable took to the ring to insult his pupil, allowing Zayn to take him out with an exploder suplex. Tonight, the two former friends collide in a non-title match just days before the triple threat clash at King and Queen of the Ring.

IYO SKY vs. Lyra Valkyria – Queen of the Ring semi-finals on WWE RAW

Lyra Valkyria defeated Dakota Kai in her first-round match-up. The former NXT Champion was originally scheduled to face Asuka, who was forced to quit the tournament due to a knee injury. Her partner, IYO SKY, would advance into the next round following a win against Natalya.

Lyra and IYO both continued their winning streak in the tournament by beating Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler, respectively. The upcoming edition of WWE RAW will see a first-time clash between the two semifinalists.

Who will prevail?

Jey Uso vs. Gunther – King of the Ring semi-finals

Jey Uso subbed for an injured Drew McIntyre in the King of the Ring tournament. The Yeet Master defeated Finn Balor in their first-round match-up. Jey would beat Ilja Dragunov in a great quarterfinal match-up to move to the semi-finals.

Tonight, he faces a familiar face in Gunther. The Ring General’s path to semi-finals wasn’t easy as well. Gunther defeated former rival Sheamus in a brutal match-up. His quarterfinal win came against New Day’s Kofi Kingston.

Fans wanted Gunther vs. Dragunov in the semi-finals, but it seems WWE doesn’t want to pull the trigger on this inevitable clash just yet. Gunther and Jey are not strangers to each other. Both have previously squared off for the Intercontinental Championship.

Can Jey hand Gunther his first pinfall loss on WWE RAW, or will the Ring General punch his ticket to the King of the Ring finals in Saudi Arabia? Wrestlezone will have full coverage of WWE RAW as it airs.
