#4.) RAW vs SmackDown wouldn’t work thanks to the Wild Card rule

As mentioned, the “one night a year” where RAW and SmackDown go head-to-head wouldn’t work as a catchphrase because it’s simply not true. WWE decided to experiment with the Wild Card rule for six months year and it was very unpopular, both among fans and superstars itself. (With Seth Rollins being vocally critical about it).

The entire RAW vs SmackDown crossover novelty wouldn’t be present because it’s something we’ve seen every week for half the year. Since they couldn’t do a direct RAW vs SmackDown theme, it made sense to add NXT to the mix to keep it fresh.
