Daniel Bryan faced Sheamus in a defense of his World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania X8. Fans were shocked when the opening contest of the show ended in a mere 18 seconds, with Bryan getting Brogue Kicked into oblivion. While there was a shock, the reaction afterward was a different story.
Fans knew of Bryan’s talent and were enraged that he wasn’t given a showcase World title match at the show of shows. The injustice would start translating to positive reactions and it gave Bryan a lot of momentum in 2013. When he was done with “Team Hell No”, he began a long-anticipated singles run that led him to being the central figure of The Authority storyline. It culminated at WrestleMania XXX in a long-running storyline and it paid off with big dividends.
