The first-ever main event of Extreme Rules in 2009 saw Edge defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Jeff Hardy in a ladder match. Having already failed once, Hardy was determined to climb the ladder and become World Champion again. In an enthralling main event, he managed to do exactly that.
However, his happiness was short-lived as CM Punk would come in and cash his second Money in the Bank contract in a row, becoming a multi-time World Champion. Punk got an enormous amount of heat for dethroning Hardy during his moment, but it was a moment of absolute genius.
