You’ve probably read or heard the rumors by now about Shane McMahon being primed for a WWE Championship run. Social media was in an uproar over this “report,” but this ultimately was a story that got spun based off of something someone labeled as speculation in the first place. However, if you have noticed the way Shane McMahon has been pushed since post-WrestleMania is really unlike before, and you almost could make a case that he’s headed to the top.

Ever since his heel turn, he’s started occupying a lot of screen time and has essentially been WWE’s top heel, having superstars like Drew McIntyre, Elias and The Revival as his lackeys. There is naturally going to be a lot of backlash if he does beat Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship, but a negative reaction is exactly what WWE desires in this case.

Here are five reasons why Shane McMahon as WWE Champion would be a big mistake.

#5.) An authority figure should not be World Champion

The entire purpose of authority figures is not for them to be the stars and central figures. They are basically supposed to be props that help further a storyline between two (or more) other superstars. They’re just figures that help put over other superstars. Until 2018, Shane McMahon did exactly that.

Sure, he would have an annual WrestleMania storyline and would participate at Survivor Series, but apart from that, he was an ideal authority figure – a fresh change from Stephanie McMahon who dominated screen-time during her run with the Authority. However, he’s become exactly that and if history has proved anything it’s that authority figures should not be World Champion. Vince McMahon is an example of this.

He was WWF Champion once and even ECW World Champion at one point. Though the latter was done to put Bobby Lashley over, it was clear that both reigns were a mistake.
