5 Times The Wrong Superstar Won At WWE Fastlane

Fastlane has been a rather delicate PPV for WWE. Since 2015, it’s always been the final stop on the road to WrestleMania, one that replaced Elimination Chamber (which subsequently had replaced the iconic No Way Out PPV). While the PPV has had many great moments, the reality is that there have been more moments that have been forgettable in the PPV than ones that truly stand out.

While this isn’t to say that they’ve not had good moments at all, it’s the typical case of the wrong person winning that sours people on the PPV. In fact, the reality in most cases is that if the PPV ends in a satisfactory way, the overal impression of the PPV isn’t too bad. On the other hand, if the PPV is great and has a bad ending, fans are generally sour on the whole show.

Fastlane’s biggest problem is that on more than one occasion, the wrong person has gone over. We look at five such times.

#5.) Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman – 2017

We’re just going to start off by saying that Roman Reigns will dominate this list. In the case of 2017, Reigns was being primed for a match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. It was clear from the Royal Rumble build. However, the issue was that he had to go through Strowman, who was having an extremely hot rise to the top as a monster heel. It had hardly been half a year since he branched out as a singles star, and he cost Reigns a Universal title win.

Reigns faced Strowman in a singles match at Fastlane, and he gave Strowman his first pinfall defeat in a singles match on the main roster. It was clean as a whistle and Strowman didn’t look good in defeat either. While it’s understandable that they wanted to build Reigns up for the biggest match of his career, a better way of going about it would have been a controversial finish, protecting Strowman.
