5 Reasons Why NXT Takeovers Are Always Better Than WWE Main Roster PPVs

NXT had started off as a game show, until WWE decided to use it as branding for their developmental territory, replacing Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). Since 2014 till the beginning of 2019, we’ve witnessed around 23 different Takeovers, and in that time, we’ve seen an evolution of all sorts.

The Takeover specials would generally take place at Full Sail University, the same venue where the tapings still take place for regular TV. However, once things started to grow bigger and better for NXT, they would take a step outside on the biggest platform, with the first big Takeover they had being NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.

Since then, they only had one Takeover at Full Sail University, and have expanded to bigger venues. Now, we see NXT Takeovers distributed across the “Big 5” PPV weekends in WWE, i.e. – Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, Money in the Bank, Summerslam and Survivor Series. They’ve now become a staple of these weekends, kicking things off in incredible fashion.

If you’ve followed most of the NXT Takeovers, you’re probably familiar with like-minded fans telling you that NXT outdid the main roster’s PPV, no matter how big the PPV actually is. The first time that fans could actually say that a main roster PPV was better was Royal Rumble 2019 weekend, but if it took 23 attempts for that to happen, then NXT clearly did something right.  There’s a very specific reason why NXT Takeovers always exceed expectations, and here’s why!
