Believe it or not, El Generico technically did make an appearance in NXT, just not under the same name. When being in a brief feud with then-NXT Champion Bo Dallas, Zayn was the only superstar forbidden from answering Dallas’ open challenge. So Zayn didn’t answer it, but a masked competitor named El Local did. He finished Dallas in a matter of seconds, and the crowd started chanting “Ole!” in recognition.
Zayn unmasked and has never returned to that character since. It seems like that was a fitting end for Generico.
