Even though his NXT run lasted for a little over a year, Roode was certainly looked up to by his peers backstage. In an interview with Channel Guide Magazine, Roode spoke about how special it was for him to be able to headline Takeover events, particularly the ones at WrestleMania and SummerSlam weekend. He proceeded to say:
I really don’t go out of my way to take anybody under my wing, but people do come to me for advice and certain things like that, which is really cool. It has been this gratifying experience. To be looked upon as a locker room leader and someone who can be counted on is nice.
