Impact Wrestling in 2016 was in a bit of a disarray when it came to finances. Roode, at that point, was one of their highest paid stars, and understandably so as he had been with the company for 12 years and was one of their top stars. However, as time had passed his contract and demands were seemingly too much for the company, allowing him to go sign with WWE.
Though it was believed that they had agreed on a deal, Roode wound up signing with WWE. He was even owed a few paychecks by the end of his run but that was cleared in a matter of time.
