There are few wrestlers in NXT history as unlucky as Hideo Itami was. At one point in 2015, it seemed like Itami was being primed for a run with the NXT Championship and big things were planned for him. However, a devastating injury kept him out for a long time and he suffered yet another one, with his potential never fully being realized.
When he came back in 2017, he immediately set his sights on Bobby Roode, who had just sent Itami’s fellow-Japanese superstar Shinsuke Nakamura packing from NXT. Itami came with a vengeance and challenged Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship. He had an incredible bout with Roode, looking great even in defeat.
