AEW Dynamite Review: Hits And Misses For March 5

Welcome or welcome back to our weekly AEW Dynamite hits and misses series where we recap all the good and bad from the show.

Hit – Swerve Strickland pulls a one up on Ricochet

Strickland wanted Ricochet to sign the contract. Ricochet’s arrogance got in the way. This writer was glad to see Prince Nana have Swerve’s back. Nana adds some much to Swerve’s character. This writer loved the Samantha Irvin reference from Strickland. Ricochet thought he was slick with a cheap shot attempt but Strickland had a bigger pair in his pocket. Solid opening segment!

Miss – Too long for an eight-man tag team match on AEW Dynamite

Aside from the action, which was great, the eight-man tag team match felt like it was never going to be over. It seems Cassidy is back to his tag team run with Mark Briscoe after having a banger with Takeshita previously on Dynamite.

I don’t know why Ospreay is being presented as the underdog in this feud against Fletcher. Numbers strength, maybe? I’m looking forward to the steel cage at AEW Revolution though.

Hit – Women’s tag team match on AEW Dynamite

Rosa, Statlander, Bayne, and Ford had an impressive outing after the disastrous segment previously on AEW Dynamite. They made up for the miscommunication with the action inside the ring. Bayne planted Rosa with an F5 for the win. Let’s see what’s next for Megasus in AEW.

Miss – Wheeler Yuta walks out on Jon Moxley

So, it seems like Yuta could cost Cope his world title match against Mox this Sunday at Revolution. Cope should’ve just splatted his brains with a ConChairTo to avoid any potential threat this weekend. Mox is seemingly out of backup for his world title match but this writer is far from convinced a title change is going to happen, especially following the events of this match on AEW Dynamite.

Hit – MJF tries to set Hangman Page on fire

They turned up the steam after what I thought was an underwhelming promo segment between Page and MJF previously on AEW Dynamite. Hangman attacked a fake MJF before being jumped by the real MJF. Page got knocked down by the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Max tried to set Page on fire, which was an awesome callback to Page’s destruction of Strickland’s house.

Miss – Mercedes Mone promo on AEW Dynamite

She can’t cut a promo, period. This was just not good.

Hit – Main event tag team match ft. Brody King, Swerve Strickland, Ricochet and Kazuchika Okada

It’s always fun to see Brody King go all stiff on his opponents. Ricochet and Strickland make a good tag team. Never expected to see a heel Ricochet tag with a heel Okada. This writer is looking forward to all these four men in action at AEW Revolution.

Honorable Mentions

  • Booking Max Caster in squash matches week in and out may be the best thing AEW has done with the former Acclaimed member since the split with Anthony Bowens.
  • Mariah May and Toni Storm absolutely knocked their sit-down interview out of the park. This writer is digging Mariah’s obsessive maniac gimmick. Toni had a fun interview promoting Queen of the Ring during the early goings of the show.
