Amanda Kiss divulges her tape study sources.
Unlike many pro wrestlers, Amanda Kiss did not grow up as a fan of the sport. In fact, her fandom didn’t develop until a friend invited her to an independent wrestling show a few years ago. Still, the OSCW Women’s Champion insists that her passion, while relatively new, is fervent.
During a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Kiss revealed which in-ring performers have stood out to her through her tape studies. From a character standpoint, Kiss looks to WWE Hall of Famer Luna Vachon and two-time TNA World Champion Mr. Kennedy (aka Mr. Anderson).
“I feel like Luna [Vachon] is such a basic answer, but it’s basic because she’s just that b*tch. You can’t not look at that and be like holy s***. Even if I didn’t know what the hell I was doing, I would look at that and be like ‘Yes, yes.’ I think she’s awesome, just her personality [that’s] so aggressive and out there, I love that. Then of course, I love her hair. Mr. Kennedy, I’ve been watching some of his stuff. I love the self-centered type characters too because it’s so much fun. They’re so loud and they’re so like out there. I love that.”
“I’m kind of moving in a little bit of that direction,” Kiss continued. “I play with it sometimes and it’s so much fun. It’s so fun to just see these different things or people or personalities. Then just ‘Let me try that’ or ‘Let me try this’ or ‘Oh, they did it that way. I didn’t know I could do that, let me try it,’ and see how it translates in my own world.”
In addition to Luna Vachon and Mr. Kennedy, Kiss pointed to WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper as another source of inspiration, both in the character and promo department.
“That man, just the random, the crazy of it, the ‘Oh my God, what is going on’ [aspect],” Kiss said of Piper. “An amazing promo, I love a good promo.”
