Saya Kamitani singlehandedly changed the landscape of STARDOM this past year. From the fun-loving leader of Queen’s Quest to the evil “Phenex Queen” of H.A.T.E., she now looks to become the new face of STARDOM. This coming Sunday, December 29, Saya Kamitani will headline STARDOM’s biggest annual show, Dream Queendom, against Tam Nakano in the Ryōgoku Kokugikan to challenge for Nakano’s World of Stardom Championship. This will mark her third challenge for the red belt in her career.
Saya Kamitani then spoke with Troy Gonzales of WrestleZone ahead of her main event World of Stardom Championship match at Dream Queendom 2024. She discussed her history with Tam Nakano, who was her former mentor, and her plans on taking over STARDOM as their new world champion.
Saya Kamitani has no love lost for Tam Nakano
Troy Gonzales: You have quite the history with Tam Nakano as her former protégé. Do you consider your upcoming match with her to be deeply personal? Why or why not?
Saya Kamitani: Originally, it was the case. Now, I don’t care. It’s whatever.
Troy Gonzales: This isn’t your first time facing Tam Nakano at Dream Queendom. How does the Tam Nakano you defeated for the Wonder of Stardom belt back in 2021 compare to the Tam Nakano you’ll be facing this coming December 29?
Saya Kamitani: She hasn’t changed since back then. If anything, watching her makes me feel like she’s reached her peak, and hit some kind of limit. I think it’s because of the knee injury she suffered last year. I’ve changed. I’ve evolved by joining H.A.T.E., and I’m the only one who can take that belt from Tam Nakano.
On possibly becoming World of Stardom Champion
Troy Gonzales: What does the future of Stardom as a wrestling company look like should you become World of Stardom Champion?
Saya Kamitani: STARDOM will be dyed black.
Troy Gonzales: You are also the current Regina Di Wave Champion over on WAVE. How do you plan on balancing being a champion in two different companies should you win the red belt as well?
Saya Kamitani: If I wear the Red Belt, it’ll be the first time in my wrestling career that I am a double champion. Wearing the top belts of two organizations is proof of my domination of the wrestling world. I aim to dominate the top wrestlers, and in the process, make the wrestling world more interesting.
Troy Gonzales: How will the World of Stardom Champion Saya Kamitani differ from the Wonder of Stardom Champion Saya Kamitani that fans have previously seen?
Saya Kamitani: When I held the Wonder of Stardom title, I was a sparkling, honor-student type of serious champion, but I’m not the same as I was back then. Now, I’m willing to go outside the rules and use any means necessary to drag star wrestlers down.
Her final message to Tam Nakano
Troy Gonzales: Do you have a message for Tam Nakano ahead of your World of Stardom Championship match at Dream Queendom 2024?
Saya Kamitani: I’m going to settle the grudge from last year’s 5 Star Grand Prix opening match. Your future, Tam Nakano, is pitch black.
WrestleZone would like to thank Saya Kamitani and STARDOM for their time and efforts in accommodating our interview request.
