Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: Masha Slamovich Unseats The Juggernaut, NXT To Go Extreme, Katie Arquette Interview

Masha Slamovich claims her first TNA Knockouts Championship. WWE NXT goes to the extreme next week. Katie Arquette chats with WrestleZone, and more! Let’s break it down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up!

Masha Slamovich Claims TNA Singles Gold

There’s a new sheriff in the TNA Knockouts division, and her name is Masha Slamovich.

At TNA Bound For Glory, Jordynne Grace defended her Knockouts Championship against “The Russian Dynamite” Masha Slamovich. This marked the third title match between the two, as Grace had previously defeated Slamovich at Bound For Glory and Over Drive in 2022. Heading into this year’s Bound For Glory, Slamovich looked to change her fate, and that, she did.

In the match’s closing moments, Slamovich surprisingly kicked out of Grace’s Juggernaut Driver finisher. With momentum on her side, Slamovich then sent “The Juggernaut” crashing to the mat with a Slow Plow off the top rope and a Piledriver in the center of the ring, the latter of which solidified the victory and her first Knockouts Championship reign.

Fresh off her big win at Bound For Glory, Slamovich appeared on the popular late-night talk show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. There, Slamovich emerged in a parody music video, starring Will Ferrell, inspired by Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.” In it, Slamovich is seen sitting atop a blue tractor, with a farm setting in the background.

Elsewhere at Bound For Glory, Dani Luna and Jody Threat beat Rosemary and WWE NXT’s Wendy Choo to retain the Knockouts Tag Team Championships. Fellow Knockouts Tasha Steelz and Lei Ying Lee also appeared on the card, specifically as entrants in the pre-show Call Your Shot Gauntlet. The latter ultimately eliminated the former, before suffering her own elimination at the hands of Frankie Kazarian.

WWE NXT To Go Extreme In Philadelphia

Fresh off a successful Halloween Havoc premium live event, the WWE NXT brand now looks ahead to a special Wednesday night program from the old ECW arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

With the spirit of ECW still roaming throughout the respective venue, NXT booker Shawn Michaels has put together two women’s matches for next week’s show, one of which features a former ECW talent. 26 years after debuting as the manager to Lance Storm in ECW, Dawn Marie will serve as the special guest referee for a hardcore match between Lola Vice and Jaida Parker next week.

Elsewhere, former TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace returns to NXT action in a stacked 10-woman tag team match. In Grace’s corner will be Kelani Jordan and the recently signed names of Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, and Zaria (fka DELTA). On the other side, NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez will team with Cora Jade and Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Jazmyn Nyx). This tag bout comes after the latter five surrounded Zaria on this week’s episode of NXT. Luckily for her, though, Kelani, Vaquer, Giulia and Jordynne quickly rushed down to even the odds.

At NXT Halloween Havoc, Henley defeated Kelani in a Gauntlet match to claim the NXT Women’s North American Championship, after which Zaria attacked all three members of Fatal Influence. Meanwhile, Giulia and Vaquer beat Perez and Jade in tag team action.

Abadon Gets ROH Women’s Title Shot

On the spookiest day of the year, AEW/ROH’s spookiest competitor will vie for a major title.

As previously announced on social media, “The Living Dead Girl” Abadon will challenge Athena for the ROH Women’s Championship on the Halloween night episode of ROH on HonorClub. As an added stake, this title match will come paired with the Halloween Ring of Horror stipulation, which suggests the inclusion of Halloween-themed antics and weapons.

This marks Abadon’s first-ever shot at the ROH Women’s Championship. Meanwhile, “The Forever Champ” Athena is coming off a successful title defense against Gisele Shaw at Maple Leaf Pro.

Last year, Abadon challenged Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s Championship on the special “Fright Night” edition of AEW Collision, albeit to no avail. This year, Abadon looks to change their fate and claim their first world title under the AEW/ROH umbrella.
