Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: Queen Nia Jax Claims Gold, Britt Baker Is Unsuspended, Camron Branae Interview

Queen Nia Jax claims championship gold at WWE SummerSlam. Britt Baker gets unsuspended and delivers a fiery message to Mercedes Mone. Camron Branae chats with WrestleZone and more. Let’s break it down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up!

Queen of the Ring Nia Jax Dethrones Bayley

Upon defeating Lyra Valkyria, Nia Jax not only earned the title of the 2024 Queen of the Ring, but also the title of number one contender to Bayley’s WWE Women’s Championship. Accordingly, Jax then challenged Bayley for the title at “The Biggest Party of the Summer” — WWE SummerSlam.

A resilient Bayley overcame Jax’s early offense, including an Annihilator, a Samoan Drop, and a running hip attack. In the end, though, Bayley’s efforts weren’t enough to survive a powerbomb and two additional Annihilators. As such, Jax was crowned as the new WWE Women’s Champion, marking her first singles title in six years.

Following her victory, Jax commented on her win at the post-show press conference. In doing so, Jax noted her excitement in sharing the moment with her new friend and current Money in the Bank winner, Tiffany Stratton, after the match.

“It’s actually our first SummerSlam ever,” Jax said. “I’ve never been a part of a SummerSlam, so this is my very first SummerSlam, so it does mean a lot. It was pretty incredible that Tiffy came out and shared the moment with me. My mother was there, my aunt was there. So it means a lot because it’s been quite a journey for me.”

Elsewhere on the SummerSlam card, Liv Morgan defeated Rhea Ripley to retain the WWE Women’s World Championship. This victory didn’t come with some extenuating circumstances, though, as Dominik Mysterio shockingly turned on Ripley to favor Morgan instead.

Britt Baker Is Unsuspended, Delivers Message To All In Opponent Mercedes Mone

On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Kamille defeated Clara Carter and Jazmyne Hao in a two-on-one handicap match. Afterward, she joined TBS Champion Mercedes Mone in the ring.

There, Mone claimed that while Britt Baker, her upcoming challenger, may be the first woman ever signed by AEW, she isn’t the best; Mone is. Before Mone could continue, Tony Schiavone informed her that AEW President Tony Khan had lifted Baker’s recent suspension. As such, Baker then appeared via satellite to deliver a stern message to “The CEO.”

“This match is on at All In, just like I’ve been all in since day one,” Baker said. “When I make a commitment to something, I see it through to the end, unlike you. Because we all know the second things don’t go your way, you take your ball and you go home. You’re not the future. Let’s get real. AEW is just the flavor of the month for you, where for me, AEW is home.”

Looking ahead to their TBS Championship match at AEW All In, Baker vowed to become the TBS Champion and the first woman to defeat Mone in All Elite Wrestling. Mone, of course, was unamused by Baker’s declaration.

Elsewhere on Dynamite, Mariah May beat “The Face of the West” Viva Van in singles action. Post-match, May then received a special gift from her All In opponent, Toni Storm. Upon unwrapping it, May revealed a large photo of herself and Storm sharing a warm embrace. On the backside, however, Storm inscribed a message that was quite the opposite of warm — “Die Mariah Die.” Still infuriated by May’s recent treachery, Storm suddenly ambushed May, prompting security and referees to step in and pull them apart.

In less than three weeks, May will challenge Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship at AEW All In.
