WrestleZone spoke with Oba Femi, who reflected on his run in NXT as the North American Champion. Oba has been champion for 244 days so far, winning the title by cashing in his NXT Breakout Tournament contract on January 9. However, Oba said his rematch with Dragon Lee at Vengeance Day made a statement and showed people what he was all about.
“As much as I would love to say the Stand & Deliver Triple Threat, with Josh Briggs and Dijak, because that was the best match. I’ll have to say the one with Dragon Lee at Vengeance Day. Because that was the debut,” he stated. “‘Okay, he won the breakout tournament. He cashed in. He has the title. So… But now what? What does he have now?’
“I feel like that match was the first introduction to what Oba Femi is all about. Oba Femi is a young, hungry athlete, warrior, who is looking to make a name for himself,” he continued. “Uncover his own legacy, fulfill destiny. And with that comes a certain level of chip being on his shoulder. Something to prove. And I feel like, that match exhibited all of those… It showed who Oba Femi is. He might be young, he might be inexperienced. But, he knows what he is doing.”
